Instead of a JavaJam assignment this week, we completed #1 from Web Research, which was about researching 3 web host providers satisfying the following criteria:
- Support PHP and MySQL
- Offer e-commerce capabilities
- Provide at least 1GB of disk space
Table of Results
Below is a table that summarizes my findings.
(All prices were current as of November 14, 2020 and all listed plans were the least expensive plans that had e-commerce features or were recommended for e-commerce.)
Provider Name | Setup Fees | Monthly Fees | Domain Name Registration Costs | Amount of Disk Space | Type of E-Commerce Package | Cost of E-Commerce Package |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Gandi | N/A* | $5.00 (regular price: $10.00) | Variable; prices range from $0.99 to $47.87 for at least 1 year | 20 GB | The M/Basic Plan provides a recommended maximum of 5 sites, 2 CPUs with up to 512 MB of RAM, and has unlimited bandwidth (offered for all plans); intended for small e-commerce sites with little traffic (600,000 estimated monthly pageviews and 120 GB estimated monthly traffic). | Already included** |
SiteGround | N/A* | $6.99 (regular price $14.99) | $15.95/year | 10 GB | The StartUp plan provides 1 website, approximately 10,000 monthly visits, and unmetered traffic; includes free shopping cart install and Let’s Encrypt SSL certificates. | Already included** |
HostMonster | N/A* | $4.95 (after first term, regular price $11.99) | None (due to its Unlimited Domain Hosting; in compliance with its Terms of Service) | Unlimited (due to its Unlimited Disk Storage; in compliance with its Terms of Service) | The Basic plan provides 50 GB of website space, unmetered bandwidth, a free SSL certificate, 1 domain, 5 parked domains, 25 subdomains, and 5 e-mail accounts with 100MB of storage per e-mail account. The web host provides many types of commerce shopping carts, free generated certificate, password protected directories, and OpenPGP/GPG encryption. | Already included** |
Notes About the Results
- *No setup fees were able to be found without resorting to checking out an actual order with a credit card.
- **E-commerce packages/services and options seemed to be already included by default for all 3 providers.
